Brewing Instructions
For a specific coffee, refer to exact brewing parameters such as dose, grind size, ratio, and water temperature on the product page.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
- Chemex
- Chemex filter
- Freshly ground coffee (medium-coarse grind)
- Kettle
- Scale
- Timer
- Mug or server
Step 2: Prepare the Equipment
- Place the Chemex filter in the Chemex, ensuring the triple-fold side is against the spout.
- Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the Chemex. Discard the rinse water.
Step 3: Measure and Grind Coffee
- Use a medium-coarse grind size for the coffee beans, similar to sea salt consistency. Measure out your coffee beans with a ratio of 1:16. (coffee to water).
Step 4: Add Coffee Grounds
- Add the coffee grounds to the filter in the Chemex, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
Step 5: Bloom the Coffee
- Place the Chemex on the scale, and start the timer.
- Slowly pour just enough hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee grounds) to saturate them evenly. Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30-45 seconds.
Step 6: Pours After Bloom
- First Pour: Begin pouring water in a slow, circular motion starting from the center, working your way out. Add water until you reach about half of the total brew weight.
- Second Pour: After allowing the coffee bed to settle a bit, pour the water in the same slow circular motion until you reach about 75% of the total brew weight.
- Third Pour: Lastly, pour the remaining water in a controlled manner to reach the total brew weight.
Step 7: Let the Coffee Drip
- Once all water has been poured, let the coffee drip through the filter completely. This process should take around 4-4.5 minutes depending on the grind size.
Step 8: Serve and Enjoy
- Remove the filter and discard the used grounds.
- Pour the brewed coffee into your mug or server.
- Enjoy your clean, flavorful cup of Chemex coffee!
Adjust variables like grind size, ratio, and water temperature to your liking for a perfect cup every time. Enjoy your brewing experience with the Chemex Pourover!
